The former Joint and Maritime System groups within EDS Defence were combined in January 2004 to form the Command Support Group. My role as a Test Consultant within the group was initially to define and deploy a common programme level test strategy and a set of test tools across all of the projects within the group. The two largest projects within this group were the Joint Operational Command System (JOCS) and the Royal Navy Command Support System (CSS). Following successful deployment of the test strategy and test tools I stayed on in a Test Management role to oversee the testing and acceptance of version 5.0 of JOCS.

I was responsible for:

  • The definition of a group level Test and Acceptance process that is consistent with the generic EDS methodology and the customer (MoD) requirements for Test and Acceptance. Following approval of the test strategy I managed the training and rollout of the strategy and production of supporting materials such as training courses, document templates and guidelines.
  • Configuration and rollout of the Rational TestManager tool and integration of the tool with the other Rational tools for Requirements and Change Management.
  • Test Management of the major project within the group. The project is a Windows OS and database refresh of a complete military system consisting of locked down infrastructure, numerous COTS applications with added security, secure messaging and several bespoke applications with an Oracle backend running on UNIX servers.
